POSITION
Zoo Educator (Full Time)
LOCATION
Columbian Park Zoo HOURS:
Includes days, evenings, weekends and holidays
SALARY:
$1,620.81 bi-weekly
DESCRIPTION
Serves as Full-time Educator for the Columbian Park Zoo, responsible for assisting with planning, implementing, and overseeing education programs for the Columbian Park Zoo.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation or related field, or equivalent combination of education and previous experience in parks and recreation. Ability to direct educational and interpretive programs, activities, operations consistent with program goals. Ability to actively engage the audience during public speaking presentations. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other recreation organizations, program participants, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities. Ability to supervise and direct assigned volunteers and staff making work assignments, providing training and corrective instruction. Ability to regularly work weekend and holiday hours. Must possess valid driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
Incumbent's performs duties indoors and outdoors and may involve continuous physical exertion, such as standing/walking for long periods, safely lifting/carrying objects weighing more than 50 pounds, climbing ladders, bending, shoveling, raking, pushing pulling/objects. Duties involve handling and caring for a variety of animals with different temperaments, exposure to animal bites as well as dust, dirt, adverse weather, extreme temperatures, cleaning chemicals, and some power tools.
