Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Shelter Behavior Lead to join our dynamic animal care team. In this vital role, you will oversee and implement behavior modification programs, ensuring that animals are prepared for adoption and comfortable within their environment. Your expertise will help foster positive behaviors, reduce stress, and improve the overall well-being of shelter animals. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of animals and the community by promoting humane handling, training, and care practices.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Provide daily enrichment activities for shelter dogs, including play, handling, and mental stimulation. Evaluate dogs' temperaments and behavioral needs. Collaborate with animal care staff to develop and carry out individual behavior plans. Assist with the adoption process, helping match dogs with the right families. Support new adopters with guidance on their dog's behavior and how to continue building on what we've started.
What we are looking for:
Experience working with dogs in a shelter, rescue, training, or similar setting. Solid understanding of canine behavior and positive reinforcement methods. Comfortable handling dogs of varying sizes, breeds, and temperaments. A team player who communicates well with staff and the public. Passion for animal welfare and The Ark's no-kill mission.
Pay:
$24.00 - $26.00 per hour
