Stable Hand

Stable Hand Summary:

The stable hand will be responsible for the overall maintenance and daily running of the facility, including all barns, stables, and outside areas that hold or house any of the farm animals. Daily maintenance will include cleaning and administration of animal needs, welfare, and health. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned): Strict adherence to the feeding, cleaning, and care schedules of all animals. Administration of medicine and first aid to animals if necessary. Facility maintenance as needed and assigned. Responsible for the cleanliness of the barn and stalls Daily grooming and bathing of all animals. Constant and vigilant attention to the animals, their health and their needs.

• Recognize potential or real health problems of the animals and adjust conditions to prevent further or current health problems

Job Requirements Qualifications:

The Stable Hand must have previous experience with horses in a stable setting. Education and/or

Experience:

High School Diploma or GED Skills:

• Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal
• Planning and time management
• Animal Handling

Decision Making Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, ride horses, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to stretch up or across, bend, contact grooming soaps and washes, light to heavy lifting/pulling/carrying, driving equipment, and use hand tools. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee will work predominately outdoors in a range of all weathers. Conditions will vary based on weather and season. Walking on uneven ground will be frequent Animals may occasionally be dangerous, and vigilance in the work environment will be necessary.
