Job Description

The Schuylkill Center Wildlife Clinic provides professional care to sick, injured, and orphaned native wildlife so healthy animals can be returned to their natural habitat. It is the only wildlife clinic within the city limits of Philadelphia. We see over 2,500 patients a year from the tri-county area, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. The Wildlife Rehabilitation Assistant is a part time variable hours seasonal position through October (16 hours per week) Essential Duties and Responsibilities § Assist in all aspects of running the Wildlife Clinic, including maintaining regular and open communications with the Director and Assistant Director regarding clinic operations and patient care. § Manage clinic operations as needed, including admitting patients, performing triage, and administering medicine. § Ensure quality care of all clinic patients while keeping accurate records and complying with regulatory requirements. § Manage the Clinic's hotline providing information to the public in a professional and timely manner Expected Competencies § A passion for wildlife, nature, and wildlife rehabilitation. § Ability to work as part of a team. § Skilled in the use of a variety of tools and equipment. § Knowledge of a variety of computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Education, Experience, and Additional Qualifications § At least one (1) year of experience working in a similar facility. § A college degree in a relevant field, e.g., biology or environmental science. Physical Demands/Work Environment The physical demands and work environment characteristics described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The individual will need to be able to lift, squat, and manipulate objects. The employee will work within a standard office environment and indoor/outdoor enclosure areas, animal care and public environments with exposure to environmental conditions such as weather and that include working with/near and caring for animals. There is potential for exposure to parasites and infectious diseases that can be carried and transmitted by animals. While performing the duties of this job the employee may have frequent exposure to loud noises, allergens and potential hostile persons and/or aggressive animals.
