Job Responsibilities Serve as Artificial Reef Program Coordinator managing various aspects of the development, management and long-term maintenance of a system of man-made marine reefs in the estuarine, coastal and offshore waters of the state and assist in research related activities within this reef system. Oversee in the maintenance of a system of private aids to navigation used to mark state maintained reefs. Assist in the collection, processing and dissemination of technical and scientific data and other information necessary to the effective use of man-made reefs. The individual will be working under the supervision of the Recreational Fisheries Development and Surveys Program Manager but will be expected to coordinate the Artificial Reef Program for SCDNR which includes project development and solicitation, diving activities, boat maintenance, buoy permitting and maintenance, and numerous inspection and construction activities independently. Minimum and Additional Requirements A master's degree in biology, chemistry or related technical area field; or a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area and two (2) years of experience relevant to the job. Possess or be able to obtain a SCUBA certification from a nationally accredited training organization for purposes of scientific diving. Possess or be able to obtain Coast Guard Auxiliary Boating certification or other similar boating safety certification. Preferred Qualifications Ability to work safely and effectively at sea on small boats and larger research vessels. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to demonstrate a high degree of emotional maturity and task accomplishment through cooperative/team-focused approaches. Detail-oriented organizational and logistical skills. Program/project management skills including personnel management and supervision, budget development and tracking, and report writing desired. Working knowledge of offshore electronic charting and navigation, side scan sonar and the operation of marine vessels up to twenty-four (24) feet in length is desired. Database management, GIS, and data analysis/statistics a plus. Serve as the primary point of contact within the MRD for inquiries from the public, private industry, other government agencies and various user groups related to the Marine Artificial Reef Program. Ability to participate in a wide variety of educational and public outreach activities for the Marine Resources Division (MRD). Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and outside of normal work hours to complete project objectives. Ability to work in marine systems under adverse weather conditions, to lift and carry heavy objects, swim short distances, and make precise visual observations.
