Science & Social Studies, Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY

The Science Coordinator is responsible for leading, coordinating, and enhancing the district's science and social studies programs to ensure alignment with Missouri DESE standards, MSIP 6 requirements, and best instructional practices. This role supports teachers, building administrators, and students by providing curriculum leadership, professional development, data analysis, and program evaluation to improve science and social studies instruction and student achievement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Develop, implement, and maintain a coherent K-12 science and social studies curriculum aligned to Missouri Learning Standards and MSIP 6. Evaluate and recommend instructional materials, resources, and technology to enhance content teaching and learning. Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of content area instruction across grade levels. Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to science teachers, including classroom modeling and instructional strategies. Lead professional development sessions to build teacher capacity in science and social studies pedagogy, inquiry- based learning, and assessment literacy. Support teachers in differentiating instruction to meet diverse student needs. Analyze student performance data from district, state, and formative assessments to inform instruction and improve outcomes. Support schools in implementing formative assessments and using data to drive instructional decisions. Ensure compliance with DESE reporting requirements for science assessment data. Monitor science programs for compliance with MSIP 6 standards and Missouri DESE requirements. Conduct audits of curriculum implementation and instructional practices to ensure fidelity. Recommend improvements and strategic initiatives to enhance student learning outcomes. Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum, building administrators, and instructional staff to support district goals. Serve as a liaison with DESE, regional science education networks, and community partners. Communicate science program initiatives, goals, and student outcomes to stakeholders, including staff, families, and the Board of Education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Possesses strong leadership traits with the ability to lead people and provide direction. Takes initiative, detailed oriented, and is highly organized. Has a deep working knowledge of instructional effective practices, balanced assessments, and data analysis Demonstrated experience in science curriculum development, instructional coaching, or program coordination. Knowledge of Missouri Learning Standards, MSIP 6, and DESE assessment and accountability requirements.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Science Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field (Master's preferred).

Valid Missouri teaching certificate:

additional administrative or curriculum certification preferred.
