UPMC Hillman Cancer Center has an exciting opportunity for a Scribe/Medical Writer to support a breast oncology provider at our York clinic. This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with a physician, contributing directly to patient care and clinical efficiency. The provider is also involved in a fellowship program, offering additional exposure and the opportunity to assist with educational and program-related support as needed. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with two to three clinic days per week alongside the provider. This is a daylight position with no weekends or holidays required. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of medical terminology and prior experience in a medical office setting. Candidates with previous Medical Scribe experience are strongly encouraged to apply. We are seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented professional with excellent multitasking abilities and a proactive mindset. The Scribe plays a vital role on the care team, working closely with the physician to ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR). Responsibilities include real-time documentation of patient encounters, completing detailed summaries of consultations and treatments, and assisting with clinic charting. The Scribe is also responsible for anticipating the physician's needs, supporting workflow efficiency, and performing clerical tasks such as preparing reports, managing documentation, and coordinating information during clinic sessions. This position requires strong time management skills to support patient flow without disruption, as well as the ability to capture detailed clinical information efficiently and accurately. Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to, answering phones, scanning, abstracting, checking patients in and out, helping with work queues, etc. Remains as close to physician as possible and limits time away from the physician and the patient. At times, guides patient to front desk after completion of exam and ensures proper follow-up appointments are made. Provides patient with assistants while they are exiting the exam room to expedite patient flow. Monitors examination room and any physical limitations that the patient may have Evaluates the condition of the exam room to ensure adequate supplies are in stock. Correctly summarizes and documents what the physician says during an examination, including but not limited to: proper charting of the examination, documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment and recommendations for treatment (including justifications of decisions reached when appropriate). Learns the personality and preferences of each physician, recognizing differences and abiding by them when working with each particular physician. Accommodates the needs of the patient for the exam. Notifies physician of changes to the daily schedule, especially emergencies Enter charge information as designated by the physician Maintains an awareness of the patient's verbal and non-verbal communication when the physician is providing instructions as it may necessitate the writer repeating information, providing written instructions, and/or patient educations materials for the patient to review at home.
