Job Description

About the Role The St. Helens Public Library is seeking a motivated and curious Seasonal Library Intern to join our team this summer! This paid internship is a fantastic opportunity for a young adult (ages 16-18) interested in libraries, youth services, community engagement, or education. This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the State Library of Oregon. You'll work alongside professional librarians to contribute to a Connected Learning Project, and support fun and meaningful programming through our Summer Library Challenge . This internship will provide hands-on experience with library operations, community outreach, and project planning-perfect for building your resume and developing new skills. What You'll Do Support planning, setup, and delivery of Summer Library Challenge events Design and implement a Connected Learning Project with a community-facing component Coordinate project milestones and share progress and outcomes Attend training sessions and library meetings Participate in outreach, provide program assistance, and engage with library patrons guided by library staff Reflect and document your experiences throughout the internship Who We're Looking For Age 16-18 Curious, creative, and eager to learn Able to work well independently and with a team Strong communication skills (written and verbal) Comfortable using a computer and navigating the internet Available 5-20 hours per week from May 15 - August 31, 2026 and willing to work some evenings or weekends Reliable transportation necessary Preferred Qualifications Interest in youth development, libraries, or community service What You'll Gain Real-world experience in a library and public service setting Professional mentorship from librarians Community service and project management skills A deeper understanding of connected learning and youth engagement A chance to make a meaningful impact in your community Join us in making the library a vibrant and inclusive space for learning, creativity, and community connection this summer!
