Job Description

About The Club Whippoorwill is a family-focused, full-service private golf and country club located in Armonk, New York. The club represents an especially important part of its members' lives (many of whom are multi-generational) by maintaining its traditions and continuing to invest in its facilities and membership programming. Whippoorwill prides itself on its family-oriented culture and comradery. Whippoorwill was founded in 1928 and features an 18-hole Donald Ross/Charles Banks-designed golf course that was recognized by Golfweek in 2018 as a "Top 100 Classic Course." Other amenities include a new driving range and short-game practice area; six Har-Tru tennis courts and a new Tennis and Golf Performance Center; a new turf management facility; an active junior sports camp program; an aquatic center; and a recently renovated, 20,000 square-foot-clubhouse. Food and Beverage Program The dining experience was greatly enhanced when the clubhouse was renovated in 2018. Renovations included completion of the Bank's Bar, Ross Grille, Calder Dining Room, and an expanded patio space. Whippoorwill offers both casual and more formal dining options and restaurants are open for lunch and dinner Tuesday's through Sunday's in the summer season. A newly expanded Patio offers al fresco dining and seats up to 160 people. Whippoorwill has a pool snack bar that is open Memorial Day through Labor Day and is staffed by a snack bar kitchen manager and cook. The club has two kitchens - one in the clubhouse and the other at the pool snack bar. The largest member event at Whippoorwill is the Fourth of July celebration when the club hosts up to 800 people. The club averages two to three weddings per year. Whippoorwill is closed on Mondays in season and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays in the off-season. The club is also closed on Christmas day. Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations Must be familiar with and have worked with all kitchen equipment. Awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions; skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards. Knowledge of food handling and preparation principles and procedures for all foods produced and served in the club. Knowledge of and ability to perform required role during emergency situations. Cooks and prepares a variety of food products, including meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, sauces and stocks according to the club's standard recipes using a variety of equipment and utensils according to the daily prep list. Job Tasks/Duties
  • Take inventory of all items required for station set-up and determine those items that require preparation.
  • Prepares items according to standard recipes.
  • Coordinates and times orders with other kitchen operations.
  • Requisitions items needed to produce menu items.
  • Notifies Sous Chef of expected shortages.
  • Ensures that assigned work areas and equipment are clean and sanitary.
  • Sets-up, maintains and breaks down cook station.
  • Makes recommendations for maintenance, repair and upkeep of the line prep area and equipment.
  • Attends kitchen staff meetings and offers suggestions for improvements.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned by Sous Chef.
