SUMMARY OF FUNCTION
Patrols and maintains order in city parks and recreation facilities so as to promote and enhance the well being, safety, and enjoyment of the facilities by the public.
DESCRIPTION
Monitors park and recreation facilities and maintains order during programmed and non-programmed activities. Serves as a source of information to park and recreation facility visitors. Strives to ensure the safety of each and every park and recreation facility visitors. Assists other department employees in conducting recreational programs and activities. Maintains communication with law enforcement personnel, and reports problems in the parks immediately to the appropriate authorities. Enforces city ordinances and recreation department policies and procedures as required in the parks and surrounding city areas. Completes reports as required such as daily logs, vehicle safety checks, incident and accident reports and other necessary documentation and reports. Participates in staff meetings, special events sponsored by the department; work cooperatively with other recreation and city staff. Acts as a liaison between the department and users of the parks and recreation facilities. May be asked to perform other duties related to the day-to-day operation of the department.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Be able to complete a city application and pass an oral interview. Customer service experience working with teens and the general public. Ability to resolve and mediate disputes. Able to communicate effectively with the public. Initiative and resourcefulness in handling problems. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, including but not limited to, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day Must be physically able to perform duties, including ability to lift boxes, bags, tables, chairs, and other equipment or trash, up to 50 pounds. Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license. Possess training and experience in conflict resolution. CPR and Red Cross training preferred.
SALARY RANGE
  • This is a temporary/seasonal position (May 15 thru November 12) with an hourly minimum rate of $15.
