Job Description
Friends of Karen, a non-profit organization assisting children and their families with life threatening illnesses, is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Seasonal Back-to-School Program Assistant to assist our Volunteer Coordinator ensuring hundreds of Friends of Karen children and their siblings receive the school supplies they need to start the school year with confidence. This position will be 40 hours per week June through August in our North Salem NY headquarters.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteer Coordination:
Welcome, orient, and supervise volunteers as they pack school supplies, ensuring a positive and organized experience.Donation Management:
Check in, sort, and process in-kind donations of school supplies and gift cards.Logistics & Fulfillment:
Pack backpacks, prepare packages for shipping, and manage incoming deliveries from carriers (UPS, FedEx, Post Office).Data & Communication:
Maintain and update family information in Excel spreadsheets daily; answer phones and make calls to volunteers and donors as needed.Donation Pickups:
Occasionally meet with local donors offsite to pick up donations.General Support:
Replenish inventory, maintain a safe and organized workspace, and assist with additional tasks as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS

Strong commitment to Friends of Karen's mission to provide emotional, financial, and advocacy support to families.Experience:
Previous experience in volunteer management, retail, or administrative support is a plus.Organization:
High level of organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.Technology:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).Interpersonal Skills:
Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate volunteers of all ages.Versatility:
Ability to work independently, set priorities, and meet tight deadlines under pressure.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to stand for extended periods during packing. Must be able to lift and move boxes up to 25 pounds.Job Types:
