Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (occasional evening/weekend events) Position Summary The Seasonal Summer Highway Maintenance Worker supports the Township Highway Department with the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of township roads, properties, and infrastructure during the summer season. This entry-level position performs a variety of manual labor tasks related to roadway maintenance, landscaping, brush pickup, storm cleanup, and general public works operations. The Seasonal Summer Highway Maintenance Worker works under the direction of the Director of Highways and assists with maintaining safe, clean, and functional township roadways and public areas for residents. This is a temporary seasonal position for the summer months. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Roadway & Grounds Maintenance Assist with pothole patching, roadway repairs, and shoulder maintenance Perform brush pickup, debris removal, and roadside cleanup Mow grass, trim weeds, and assist with landscaping and vegetation control Clean and maintain drainage ditches, culverts, and stormwater areas Assist with maintaining Township-owned properties, buildings, and grounds Equipment & Vehicle Support Operate hand tools, lawn equipment, and light-duty machinery safely and effectively Load and unload materials, equipment, and supplies Conduct basic inspections and cleaning of vehicles, tools, and equipment Report equipment or safety concerns to supervisors General Department Support Follow all Township safety procedures and OSHA guidelines Work collaboratively with Highway Department staff and Township personnel Assist with special projects, community cleanup efforts, and seasonal operations Respond professionally to resident interactions when encountered in the field Perform other related duties as assigned to support department operations Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred Must be at least 18 years old Valid Illinois Driver's License required Ability to safely operate hand tools and lawn equipment Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to perform physical labor Prior experience in landscaping, construction, maintenance, or public works preferred but not required Physical & Work Environment Requirements Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly Work performed primarily outdoors in varying summer weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and rain Ability to safely work near traffic, construction areas, and operating equipment Availability for occasional extended hours as needed during peak seasonal operations Employee Benefits Paid Leave Disclaimer This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.
