Job Description
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Patrol all University property, facilities, and residence halls on foot, vehicle and/or bicycle to check for on security and safety conditions, secures buildings, reports security violations, criminal activity and violations of University and Security policies and procedures requiring corrections. Respond to fire and security alarm activations, emergency call phone activations, radio dispatched calls, personal and telephone requests for assistance. Work fixed security posts for sporting events, graduation ceremony, "move-in day", performances at the Fine Arts Center, rallies for political candidates or other designated events, monitors alarm and closed circuit television, answers phone, operates radio equipment, logs and routes messages, maintains records, issues passes, and safeguards University and personal property. Provide public assistance to visitors and staff, such as locking/unlocking doors; accepting, storing and returning lost property; providing safety escorts for students, faculty, staff and visitors on campus, and perform motorist assists to university students, faculty, staff and visitors such as jump-starting vehicles and giving directions. Respond to and investigate criminal offenses and incidents that occur on university property that involve university students, faculty, staff and visitors on campus, and prepare and file the appropriate documentation. Notify and/or assist local law enforcement when needed or requested. Investigates and enforces Board of Trustees' rules, and enforces University, facility and departmental policies, procedures and rules. Perform safety checks. Perform routine checks of fire extinguishers, AED's, alarm functioning and parking violations. Regulate traffic and parking, enforce motor vehicle regulations, issue traffic and parking citations, register motor vehicles, prepare and maintain work orders and reports as required. Issue parking permits to students, faculty, staff and visitors for campus parking. Acts in absence of the shift supervisor by supervising security officers of same or lower classifications (e.g., assigns and reviews work; trains new security officers; assures compliance with operating policies, procedures, and rules); performs related administrative functions (e.g., completes records and reports; prepares daily assignments and rosters; maintains other records as assigned, etc.). Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate journals, books and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences and in-services. Perform other duties as assigned.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Must successfully pass both state BCI and FBI background checks. Possess current valid driver's license in order to drive security vehicle. Prior experience in Security Services setting preferred. Successfully complete CPR and first-aid training within three (3) months of hire or as soon as arrangements can be made to complete this training.Interpersonal Skills:
Must have good interpersonal skills to be able to communicate verbally and in writing with a variety of publics.Essential Technical/Motor Skills:
Must be able to use hands for simple grasping, such as holding a radio or telephone; must have fine manipulation such as when writing; and using a computer, pushing and pulling heavy loads, and dealing with fire-fighting equipment. Must be able to use feet for repetitive movement especially while driving university vehicles.Essential Physical Requirements:
The physical demand for this position is very heavy. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or drag 100 pounds when answering emergency calls to assist with students, faculty, staff or visitors, or when transporting items. Must be able to bend, squat, reach above shoulders, and crawl. Must be able to independently climb stairwells and ladders with fire-fighting equipment without assistance. Must be able to run. Must be able to walk and drive in inclement weather such as snow, rain and ice.Essential Mental Abilities:
Must occasionally work alone. Must be able to meet deadlines under pressure, and work irregular schedules. Must be able to concentrate on details. Must be able to positively interact with students, faculty, staff and visitors. Must be able to solve problems on an independent basis. Must be aware that the possibility of physical confrontation increases the likelihood of injury. Must understand that there may be exposure to odors, body fluids, sharp instruments, moving machinery, and other hazards. Must be able to make effective decisions under pressure.Essential Sensory Requirements:
Must be able to hear machinery sound changes, whistles, cries for help, screams, alarms, and traffic noises. Must be able to see dangerous or hazardous situations or conditions; must have excellent depth perception and no night blindness. Must be able to smell noxious or unusual odors. Exposure toHazards:
Frequently exposed to odors, body fluids, sharp instruments and moving machinery. Frequent exposure to hazards of driving and foot patrol including poor road conditions, ice and snow. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather. Cognizant that the possibility of physical confrontation increases the likelihood of injury.APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
