Job Description
Description Tyler Houk (Practice Director) at Robert Half is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join a logistics business in Fresno, California. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting timely close activities, and delivering dependable reporting across a multi-entity operation. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting judgment, a hands-on approach to day-to-day financial processes, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both finance and operational teams.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close cycle by preparing journal entries, completing reconciliations, and reviewing financial results for accuracy.
- Manage general ledger activity across multiple business entities and operating locations, ensuring records remain complete, balanced, and audit-ready.
- Produce financial reports and supporting schedules that help leadership evaluate performance and make informed business decisions.
- Monitor fuel inventory accounting by reconciling volume, cost, and margin data and investigating discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Provide oversight for accounts receivable and accounts payable processes by reviewing reconciliations and resolving exceptions that affect reporting accuracy.
- Use the company's accounting platform to maintain transaction records, generate reports, and support inventory-related accounting activities.
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning through analysis of historical trends and current operating results.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, and regulatory partners by preparing requested documentation and responding to financial inquiries.
- Strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls by documenting workflows and recommending practical process improvements.
- Partner with management and operations teams to deliver financial insight, explain variances, and support ongoing business performance initiatives. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
- At least 3 years of progressive accounting experience, with stronger consideration for candidates who bring additional senior-level expertise.
- Solid background in month-end close, general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Experience performing bank reconciliations and working through discrepancies with a high level of accuracy.
- Knowledge of financial reporting principles and core accounting processes within a multi-entity or operationally complex environment.
- Advanced Excel skills and the ability to interpret large volumes of financial and transactional data.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently.
- Prior experience in logistics, distribution, agriculture, or a similarly fast-moving industry is preferred.
