We've delivered four expeditionary-scale prototype units to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, hold an active Air Force contract (GRAPE), and have $49M in DoD funding to date. We are a small, technically dense team. The work is real. The systems we design get wet, get tested, and get shipped. The Role We are hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead and back-stop our electrical engineering function across the Volturnus product line and adjacent programs. You will work directly with our EE manager and CEO on the design, integration, and field testing of large underwater generators and the power electronics that condition their output. This is a senior individual contributor role with technical leadership expectations. You will own deliverables end-to-end and be expected to make decisions, not wait for them. What You Will Do Design and review large permanent magnet and radial-flux generators for submerged operation, including stator/rotor topology, winding configuration, thermal management, and sealing strategy Specify and integrate power electronics: rectifiers, inverters, MPPT controllers, grid-tie and off-grid power conditioning Develop and review electrical schematics, harness drawings, and BOMs for production Lead bench and in-water testing
  • instrumentation, data acquisition, failure analysis Partner with mechanical engineering on integrated electromechanical packaging Interface with DoD program managers, ERDC-CERL, and prime contractors on technical reviews Mentor junior engineers and own the EE workstream when the EE manager is unavailable What You Bring BS or MS in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent demonstrated experience) 10+ years designing electrical machines, power electronics, or marine/submerged electrical systems Hands-on experience with permanent magnet generators, radial or axial flux topologies Strong understanding of three-phase power, rectification, inversion, and grid-tie systems Experience with FEA tools for electromagnetic design (Ansys Maxwell, Motor-CAD, JMAG, or equivalent) Comfort with schematic capture and PCB review (Altium, KiCad, or equivalent) Field testing experience•you have personally instrumented a system, debugged it, and made it work Ability to read a mechanical drawing and have a real conversation with a mechanical engineer Nice to Have Marine, subsea, or hydrokinetic experience DoD contractor experience, ITAR familiarity Generator winding design, rewinding, or teardown analysis Experience with Chinese-sourced generator benchmarking or reverse engineering Sensorless control, field-oriented control, or custom motor controller development SCADA, telemetry, or remote monitoring system design What This Role Is Not A desk-only role.
You will be in the shop, in the water, and on customer sites. A junior role. We need someone who can run the EE function if our manager is out for a month. A consulting gig. We are hiring an employee. Compensation $160,000
