About the Role The Senior Logistics Solutions Specialist serves as a primary day-to-day contact for customers, managing order acceptance, shipment execution, accessorials, and service recovery across intermodal and truckload operations. This role exercises moderate discretion and independent judgment to resolve service disruptions, protect customer shipments, and balance customer needs with Matson Logistics' operational and financial interests. As a senior-level contributor, this position also supports onboarding, training, and mentoring of peers. What you'll do: Customer Service & Shipment Execution Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned customers, ensuring consistent, high-quality service. Manage daily load acceptance and ensure accurate order entry via EDI, web tender, email, fax, or phone. Monitor shipment movement from pickup through delivery and provide proactive status updates. Solicit additional freight opportunities from existing customers. Problem Resolution & Service Recovery Identify and resolve shipment delays, service failures, and exceptions (e.g., derailments, detours, equipment issues, damage). Implement contingency plans and corrective actions with minimal supervisory guidance. Investigate overages, shortages, damage, and distressed loads to minimize loss and support claims mitigation. Escalate issues appropriately while striving for resolution at the specialist level. Accessorials, Billing & Financial Stewardship Review, approve, and communicate accessorial charges, invoice discrepancies, and loss claims. Determine billable accessorials and ensure accurate customer invoicing. May negotiate rates and services with drayage vendors to protect customer interests and Matson margins. Collaboration & Team Leadership Partner with Sales to onboard new customers and document service requirements and expectations. Assist Sales Representatives with customer communication and account strategy. Provide coverage for absent team members and support workload balancing during peak periods. Assist in training and onboarding new Logistics Solutions Specialists and other new hires. Serve as a go-to resource for peers and lead by example in performance, professionalism, and teamwork. Professional Standards & Continuous Support Consistently demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills, even in high-pressure situations. Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements. Perform additional duties as assigned to support customer needs and business objectives. You have these qualifications: High school diploma or GED required with 3+ years of relevant logistics or transportation experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven ability to independently manage complex shipments and service exceptions. Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment under minimal supervision. Advanced proficiency in MS Office, including Excel (formulas, pivot tables). Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and customer-service communication skills. Ability to manage changing priorities, seasonal volume fluctuations, and multiple customer accounts. Extra credit if you have: Four-year college degree preferred. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
