Job Description
Lakes Area Manufacturing is seeking a highly experienced Senior Quality Engineer - CMM Programming to serve as the technical authority for dimensional inspection strategy, CMM programming, and metrology systems in support of Department of Defense (DoD) programs. This is a hands-on, non-supervisory technical leadership role responsible for developing robust, scalable inspection methods for complex, tight-tolerance components. The ideal candidate is not just a CMM operator, but an expert programmer capable of building, optimizing, and standardizing inspection programs from the ground up in a regulated, high-compliance environment.

Monday -Thursday:
6:00am - 4:00pm (4 x 10-hour shifts) Occasional overtime onFridays Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development, validation, and optimization of CMM programs (Zeiss Calypso) for complex DoD components. Establish and standardize CMM programming methodologies, inspection strategies, and reporting structures across the organization. Interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications to define inspection approach, datum strategies, and measurement methods. Serve as the technical authority on GD&T application, ensuring accurate verification of profile, position, and complex tolerancing schemes. Own and execute First Article Inspection (FAI) packages in accordance with AS9102 requirements. Troubleshoot and resolve complex dimensional and metrology issues, including program errors, fixturing challenges, and measurement uncertainty. Analyze inspection data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for process improvement. Define and track inspection performance metrics (e.g., repeatability, reproducibility, cycle time, backlog reduction). Ensure compliance withAS9100, ISO
9001, and customer-specific DoD requirements. Support audits, customer reviews, and compliance activities related to quality and inspection systems. Perform hands-on inspection as needed, including production support.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). 7-10+ years of experience in precision manufacturing, with significant time in DoD, aerospace, or regulated environments. Expert-level CMM programming experience (Zeiss Calypso required) — must be able to build programs from scratch, not just run or edit. Proven experience developing inspection strategies for complex, tight-tolerance machined components. Advanced proficiency in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) with real-world application. Strong experience with AS9100 quality systems andAS9102 FAI
documentation. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex dimensional issues and drive corrective actions. Hands-on experience with precision metrology tools and measurement systems. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience using data to drive decisions. Excellent technical communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting DoD contracts or defense/aerospace customers. ASQ Certification (CQE, CQI) or GD&T Professional Certification. Experience with measurement system analysis (MSA), GR&R, and statistical methods. Familiarity with automation, offline programming, or model-based definition (MBD).What We Offer:
