Job Description

About Avaya Avaya is an enterprise software leader that helps the world's largest organizations and government agencies forge unbreakable connections. The Avaya Infinity™ platform unifies fragmented customer experiences, connecting the channels, insights, technologies, and workflows that together create enduring customer and employee relationships. We believe success is built through strong connections - with each other, with our work, and with our mission. At Avaya, you'll find a community that values your contributions and supports your growth every step of the way. Learn more at https://www.avaya.com The Mission As a Shipboard Engineer you will be the technical visionary behind the complex, shipboard-integrated communication solutions powering the US Navy. This is a unique, multidisciplinary role where Telephony meets Toughness. You will lead the design of multi-vendor integrations, bridging the gap between high-end commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technology and the brutal physical realities of a maritime combat environment. From designing custom server hardware to ensuring Avaya's next-gen software can survive a Grade-A shock event, you are the final word on technical integrity. Key Responsibilities
Systems Architecture:
Lead the design and integration of complex shipboard communication systems (Telephony, Messaging, Conferencing, and Networking).
Hardware Ruggedization:
Specify COTS equipment and architect the transition from "office-grade" to "military-grade," ensuring components can handle extreme heat, humidity, and weight constraints.
Custom Server Design:
Build custom server specifications from the ground up to handle the unique power and space rigors of naval installations.
Environmental Qualification:
Oversee the full lifecycle of
MIL-SPEC
testing, troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and software failures in real-time during environmental stress tests.
Strategic Liaison:
Act as the technical bridge between the Sales team, the US Navy customer, and Avaya Product Design teams to influence future roadmap features for defense needs.
Compliance & Safety:
Apply National Electrical Code (NEC) standards specifically adapted for shipboard safety and electromagnetic pulse (EMP) mitigation. Technical Mastery Required To be successful, you must be comfortable solving problems across 12 distinct domains and possess an Electrical Engineering degree - or commensurate EE experience. Telephony & VoIP Messaging Systems Conferencing Tools Networking (Routing/Switching) Power Distribution Thermal Management Humidity Control Weight & Balance Custom Software Integration OS & Hypervisors (Virtualization) Firmware Strategy Mechanical Troubleshooting Military Standards & Testing Expertise You will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for ensuring our designs meet the following rigorous standards:

(High Impact) and
MIL-STD-167-1
(Propulsion Vibration).
EMI/EMC:
MIL-STD-461

(Noise) and
MIL-STD-1399
(Shipboard Power Interface).
Human Factors:
MIL-STD-1472
(Human Engineering). This is not a "desk job." It is a high-impact engineering role where your designs are deployed on the most advanced vessels in the world. You will have the autonomy to specify hardware, the authority to lead multi-vendor integrations, and the challenge of solving problems that don't exist in a standard data center. #LI- CM1 #
