Job Title:
Shipping and Receiving Clerk Job Description The Shipping and Receiving Clerk accurately completes packaging work orders, maintains inventory integrity, and supports daily shipping operations in a clean, climate-controlled warehouse. This role operates packaging and material handling equipment, prepares shipments using various carriers and shipping systems, and ensures all work meets defined quality, safety, and workmanship standards. Responsibilities Complete packaging work orders as assigned according to defined requirements and production priorities. Stop work order processing immediately when identifying any nonconforming condition and follow established procedures to resolve issues. Operate electronic counting scales, heat sealers, and automated packaging machines to package products accurately and efficiently. Maintain the integrity of inventory by recording final inventory counts of packaged parts upon completion of each work order. Perform general housekeeping and upkeep of the warehouse and packaging areas to maintain a clean, organized, and safe facility. Execute shipping and receiving activities, including picking orders, packing, labeling, and preparing shipments. Pick orders by following paper pick tickets and verify accuracy of items, quantities, and lot numbers. Ensure lot number integrity and verify alphanumeric part numbers to prevent shipping errors. Pack orders by counting individual pieces or using digital scales and ensure packaging meets customer standards and specific customer requirements. Prepare and process shipping documents, including bills of lading and other required paperwork. Use shipping software and systems to create shipping labels, track shipments, and manage carrier information. Handle small parcel shipments with carriers such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL, including domestic and international shipments. Differentiate and process various shipping terms, including third-party, prepaid (add), and consignee shipping. Print and apply proper shipping labels and documentation, including international shipping-related documents when required. Load and unload trucks as needed, using material handling equipment such as forklifts when trained and authorized. Perform inventory control activities, including counting, weighing, labeling, and tracking inventory movements. Use ERP systems such as NetSuite, Sightline, or AS400 to manage shipping transactions and update inventory records. Multi-task and handle various shipping and warehouse tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced, production-driven environment. Adapt quickly to changing priorities throughout the day to support customer needs and on-time shipments. Follow all workplace safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment. Uphold conduct codes and workmanship standards, demonstrating professionalism, accountability, and a strong sense of urgency. Essential Skills Minimum 2+ years of warehouse experience working in a shipping environment with a consistent tenure at one company. Proven experience in shipping and receiving operations, including picking, packing, and order fulfillment. Ability to understand and maintain lot number integrity and verify alphanumeric part numbers. Experience with small package shipping using carriers such as FedEx, UPS, and DHL. Working knowledge of ERP systems for shipping, such as NetSuite, Sightline, or AS400. Knowledge of basic computer skills for data entry, label printing, and use of shipping software. Basic mathematical skills for counting, weighing, and verifying quantities. Order picking experience using paper pick tickets. Experience with packing orders by counting individual pieces or using a digital scale. Ability to fulfill orders according to customer standards and specific customer requirements. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and handle various tasks at one time in a fast-paced environment. Ability to quickly change direction during the day to support customer service needs. Experience working safely in a warehouse or production environment. Ability to handle heavy weight and work on feet for up to 8 hours. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with material handling equipment; forklift experience is desired. Familiarity with bills of lading and other shipping documentation. Experience with shipping systems and shipping software for label creation and carrier processing. Experience with international shipping documentation and requirements. Experience in inventory control, including counting, weighing, labeling, and maintaining accurate records. Process-oriented mindset with experience in a fast-paced, production-driven shipping environment. Professional demeanor with a positive attitude and strong sense of urgency to perform at a high level. Accountability for personal performance and willingness to support team goals. Work Environment This role is based in a general warehouse that is very clean and climate controlled. The position is for a first-shift Shipping Clerk working standard hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with current summer hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Fridays. You will work alongside a small team of about six people, with each person assigned to their own tasks while supporting overall shipping and warehouse operations. The environment is fast-paced and production-driven, with regular use of electronic counting scales, heat sealers, automated packaging machines, ERP systems, and shipping software. Work involves standing for extended periods and handling heavy items while following established safety practices in a well-organized and professional setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wauconda, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
