Job Description

Shipping Clerk Job Description The Shipping Clerk coordinates and executes outbound shipments for an industrial wire distribution facility. This role ensures that orders are accurately prepared, properly documented, and shipped on time while upholding high standards of safety, quality, and customer service. The position combines hands-on warehouse work, including forklift operation and order picking, with carrier communication, shipment scheduling, and documentation management in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Coordinate and execute outbound shipments of industrial wire, cable, reels, and related materials. Communicate with carriers and brokers to schedule outbound deliveries and pickups. Evaluate shipment requirements and determine the most appropriate shipping method, including LTL, common carrier, flatbed, or full truckload based on space and load needs. Prepare and process all shipping documentation, including bills of lading, packing slips, labels, and carrier paperwork. Verify orders for accuracy by checking part numbers, quantities, weights, and packaging requirements before shipment. Ensure wire reels, spools, pallets, and other materials are properly secured, labeled, and staged for shipment. Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment to load, unload, and move materials as needed. Pick and pull orders from inventory and prepare them for shipping according to customer and internal requirements. Maintain accurate shipping records and update inventory or ERP systems to reflect shipped and staged orders. Inspect outgoing shipments for damage, quality, and compliance issues, and promptly report any discrepancies. Monitor shipping timelines, communicate any delays, and work cross-functionally with warehouse and office teams to resolve issues. Follow all safety procedures, including PPE requirements and OSHA guidelines, during all shipping and material handling activities. Keep the shipping area clean, organized, and audit-ready at all times. Assist with general warehouse duties, including loading, unloading, inventory control, and material handling, as needed. Essential Skills Minimum 1.5 years of shipping experience in distribution and logistics or a similar warehouse environment. Previous shipping or warehouse experience, preferably in industrial distribution. Experience handling and shipping heavy or oversized materials such as wire, cable, metals, or building materials. Familiarity with LTL, flatbed, and common carrier shipping practices and requirements. Proven ability to schedule and coordinate shipments with multiple carriers. Basic computer skills and experience using shipping systems or ERP software. Ability to accurately pick and pull orders and verify part numbers, quantities, and weights. Experience with warehouse inventory processes and basic inventory control. Ability to operate or assist with forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment (forklift experience strongly preferred). Strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. Commitment to following safety procedures, PPE requirements, and OSHA guidelines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in an industrial wire, cable, metals, or building materials environment. Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification. Experience with shipping documentation such as bills of lading, packing slips, and carrier-specific paperwork. Background in loading, unloading, and material handling in a warehouse setting. Experience using warehouse inventory systems or ERP platforms for shipping and receiving transactions. Ability to keep work areas organized and audit-ready. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple shipments and deadlines. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Camp Hill, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
