Shipping - Lumper

Position Summary A lumper is responsible for unloading and loading freight in distribution. Lumpers work in teams to handle and sort merchandise, ensuring it is properly organized and ready for distribution. Responsibilities Work is typically performed under minimal supervision, receiving guidance from warehouse supervisor about the work that needs to be completed. 1.

Freight Handling:

Physically unload, load, sort, and organize merchandise from trailers, containers, or delivery vehicles using various tools and equipment. 2.

Quality Control:

Inspect items for damage, discrepancies, and quality issues as they are unloaded. Report any issues to supervisors. 3.

Teamwork:

Collaborate with other Lumpers and warehouse staff to efficiently complete unloading and loading tasks. Communicate effectively to ensure a smooth process. 4.

Safety:

Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols to prevent accidents or injuries while handling freight. Use proper lifting and equipment operating techniques. 5.

Inventory Management:

Keep track of the quantity and condition of items being loaded or unloaded. Report any discrepancies or shortages. 6.

Equipment Operations:

Operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, or conveyor systems when necessary. Ensure the safe and proper use of equipment. 7.

Clean-Up:

Maintain a clean and organized work area. Dispose of packaging materials and debris appropriately. 8.

Documentation:

Complete necessary paperwork, such as receiving and shipping reports, as required by TOPS Products.
