Job Description
Established in 1988, Corn Island Shipyard has quietly become the premier builder of custom barges and specialized marine structures. Since the launch of our first barge in 1991, CIS has aspired to offer durable, high-quality products at a reasonable cost. We have achieved this goal by producing our vessels with a high degree of automation, employing a highly skilled workforce, and offering in-house design and engineering utilizing state-of-the-industry 2D and 3D design programs. CIS has produced custom marine vessels for customers on the East coast, West coast, Gulf coast, Great Lakes, and most states on the inland waterway system. Corn Island Shipyard specializes in the manufacture of custom designed products for both ocean service and inland waterway service. We produce vessels that are classed ABS as well as unclassed vessels based upon our customers' requirements. We currently have the capacity to build vessels up to 600 feet in length and 108 feet in width. Our mission is to be the leading shipyard in the United States, dedicated to delivering top-quality vessels with an unwavering focus on safety, craftsmanship, and innovation. We are committed to completing every project on time and within budget, ensuring the highest standards of reliability and efficiency. Position Summary:
The Shipyard Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily operations of the shipyard, including production, scheduling, safety, staffing, quality control, and maintenance. This role ensures that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and within budget while meeting quality standards and customer expectations. The Shipyard Manager plays a key leadership role in fostering a safe work environment and improving productivity through team development and process optimization.Key Responsibilities:
Manage shipyard operations pertaining to the new construction of vessels. (fitting, welding, mechanical, electrical, and painting) Supervise and coordinate with department foremen, leadermen, and contract crews to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery. Oversee workforce scheduling, task assignments, and resource allocation. Ensure all safety regulations and procedures are followed by staff and contractors. Monitor project progress and conduct regular inspections to ensure quality and compliance with specifications.Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Business Management, or related field preferred but not required. Minimum 5-10 years of shipyard experience or heavy industrial operations. Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or management role. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Proven knowledge of ship construction processes, including welding, rigging, hull work, and mechanical systems. Experience with OSHA regulations and marine safety compliance. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and job orders. Proficiency with MS Office Suite.Working Conditions Location:
Shipyards, dry docks, or near water.Schedule:
May require long hours, including weekends.Safety Gear:
Must wear protective gear like hard hats, gloves, and steel-toed boots.Schedule :
Mon-Thur 6:00am- 4:30pm o Overtime paid after 8 hours Friday 6:00am-2:30pm Weekends as needed
