Job Title:
Shop Technician - 2nd Shift Job Description The Shop Technician on 2nd shift works hands-on with drivetrain components to perform basic assembly and disassembly, inspections, and preventive maintenance in a clean, well-organized shop environment. This role uses blueprints, precision measuring tools, and torque devices to ensure all work meets strict quality specifications while supporting continuous improvement and cross-training across the shop. Responsibilities Perform basic assembly and disassembly operations on drivetrain parts and related components. Use blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to correctly assemble, disassemble, and inspect components. Operate gauges, torque measuring devices, and other equipment to verify conformance to quality specifications. Use precision measuring devices to ensure accurate fits, tolerances, and alignment of assembled products. Interpret blueprints effectively to understand dimensions, tolerances, and assembly requirements. Perform preventive maintenance on tools, equipment, and work area as required. Assist in identifying product, process, or equipment issues and help initiate corrective action processes. Conduct or participate in Safety Stop Audits and observations to support a safe working environment. Participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) and PID (process improvement) activities to enhance efficiency and quality. Support cross-training efforts by taking on additional duties or tasks as assigned in various areas of the shop. Handle hand tools and shop equipment safely and efficiently while maintaining high quality standards. Document work as required to support quality, maintenance, and process tracking. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly and disassembly of components, preferably drivetrain or similar mechanical systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately. Proficiency using precision measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges. Ability to use torque measuring devices and related equipment to meet specified torque requirements. Familiarity with preventive maintenance practices on tools and shop equipment. Experience working with hand tools in a mechanical or industrial environment. Ability to follow quality specifications and inspection standards consistently. Comfort working in a structured, process-driven shop environment with a focus on safety and quality. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience in mechanical assembly or disassembly is strongly encouraged. Experience in welding, metal fabrication, agricultural equipment assembly, construction equipment assembly, or general mechanics is beneficial. Experience in a manufacturing, repair, or industrial shop setting is an advantage. Willingness to participate in continuous improvement initiatives and cross-training across different shop areas. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to work a fixed 2nd shift schedule from Monday through Thursday. Why Work Here? Work Environment The position is based in a clean, well-organized shop environment with approximately 100 employees on the first shift, supporting a collaborative and structured operation. This role works on 2nd shift, Monday through Thursday, from 4:15 p.m. to 2:45 a.m., providing a four-day workweek with three consecutive days off. Work involves hands-on use of hand tools, precision measuring instruments, gauges, and torque measuring devices at dedicated workstations. The environment emphasizes safety, quality, and continuous improvement, with clear processes and standards guiding daily activities and a professional shop setting that supports focused, detail-oriented mechanical work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Fargo, ND. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.97 - $27.82/hr.
