Job Description
Position Overview The Shop Truck Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on company trucks and related equipment within the shop environment. This role ensures all vehicles are safe, compliant, and in optimal working condition to support daily operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and experienced in troubleshooting diesel and gas engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components. Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Repair Perform routine maintenance on trucks, including oil changes, tire service, brake jobs, and fluid checks. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues. Conduct inspections to identify wear, damage, or safety concerns. Complete engine, transmission, drivetrain, and suspension repairs as needed. Diagnostics & Documentation Use diagnostic tools and software to assess vehicle performance issues. Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and service timelines. Communicate equipment conditions and repair recommendations to supervisors or fleet managers. Safety & Compliance Follow all shop safety protocols and OSHA guidelines. Ensure vehicles meet DOT and company standards for roadworthiness. Maintain clean, organized workspaces and adhere to proper tool/equipment handling procedures. Collaboration & Support Work closely with other mechanics, drivers, and operations staff to coordinate repairs. Assist in training or mentoring junior technicians when needed. Support emergency repair needs and assist with after-hours or weekend shifts as required. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. 3+ years of experience as a truck mechanic or heavy-duty technician. Strong knowledge of diesel and/or gasoline engines. Experience with hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. Ability to operate shop tools, diagnostic equipment, and lifting machinery. Valid driver's license (CDL preferred). Preferred Experience working with fleet vehicles in construction, transportation, or industrial environments. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. Work in standing, kneeling, and overhead positions for extended periods. Tolerance for hot, cold, or noisy shop environments.
