Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a difference in students' lives by using your expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic educational setting. Your skills will play a crucial role in making curriculum and classroom interactions accessible for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. As a part of a supportive school environment, your interpreting abilities will empower students to engage fully in their academic and social experiences.
Qualifications/Experience:
Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and English interpretation Experience providing interpretation in K-12 school environments is highly valued National or state interpreter certification preferred Ability to interpret in various educational settings (classroom, assemblies, meetings, extracurricular activities) Strong interpersonal communication skills and professionalism Capable of working collaboratively with students, teachers, and staff Comfortable adapting interpreting style to meet individual student needs
Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken English into sign language for students and staff during instructional and non-instructional times Facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students, their peers, and school personnel Provide language development support and advocacy as appropriate Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards of conduct Participate in team meetings and Individualized Education Program (IEP) discussions as needed Collaborate with educators to optimize accessibility and inclusion in the classroom Remain flexible and responsive to the daily demands of a school environment
