Job Description
Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into an engaging role supporting young learners in their journey to master American Sign Language in a Kindergarten setting. This contract opportunity focuses on providing Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) support for foundational ASL students, helping foster communication skills in an inclusive classroom environment. The assignment consists of half-day sessions, scheduled daily throughout the 2026-2027 academic year, with the exciting potential for you to continue beyond June.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language, with certification or equivalent experience as a Sign Language Interpreter Background in working with children, ideally within an educational or classroom environment Ability to interpret foundational vocabulary and concepts (no complex signs required) Patient, empathetic, and skilled at facilitating communication among young learners and staff Collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal skillsKey Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa to ensure Kindergarten students access curriculum and classroom interactions Work closely with teachers to anticipate and support daily lesson needs Encourage students' confidence and participation through clear and accurate interpreting Maintain a supportive atmosphere, respecting confidentiality and promoting inclusivity Adapt to evolving classroom dynamics and support the unique needs of young learners new toASL Why You'll Love This Opportunity:
