Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. A rewarding opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support elementary-aged students in a school setting located in Unity, ME. This part-time contract position offers the chance to work within an educational environment, fostering communication and inclusion for young learners.
Key Qualifications:
Must hold a minimum of a 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) OR possess certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID). Experience working as a sign language interpreter, preferably within school or educational settings. Ability to effectively interpret American Sign Language (ASL) for elementary-aged students. Strong communication skills and a commitment to facilitating understanding across language barriers.
Responsibilities:
Provide clear and accurate sign language interpreting services to support elementary students in classroom and school activities. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other support staff to facilitate an inclusive learning environment. Assist in promoting effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers and educators. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions and services.
