Slitter Helper

Our client is a well-established steel service center with multiple facilities across southeast Michigan, specializing in the processing and distribution of flat-rolled steel products to automotive, manufacturing, and industrial customers.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Slitter Helper supports the Slitter Operator in running the slitting line safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on production role and a strong entry point into steel service center operations. Cross-training across line positions is expected, and strong performers can advance quickly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the Slitter Operator with line setup and daily operations Set up skids and stage finished material for incoming work orders Inspect material for defects as it moves along the line Roll out, band, and prepare finished bundles for shipment Support the operator in unloading the slitter and managing scrap winder Keep work area clean and free from safety hazards at all times Follow all work instructions and safety procedures Cross-train on other line positions and assist across the team as directed

REQUIREMENTS

Ability to read a tape measure (required) Comfortable working with heavy machinery and following safety protocols Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. consistently throughout the shift Organized, detail-oriented, and team-oriented attitude High school diploma or GED preferred Must be reliable and punctual

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 3-6

months of slitting or steel processing experience General mechanical aptitude Basic math skills including decimal-to-inch conversion Prior experience in a manufacturing or production environment

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly throughout the shift Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, steel dust, and temperature variation Steel-toed boots required; all other PPE provided Must follow all OSHA and facility safety protocols

Pay:

$17.00 - $20.00 per hour
