QUALIFICATIONS
Must demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities and meet NCLB standards for "highly qualified" employee (two years minimum college experience, or successful completion of the Para-Pro Assessment Test).

OBJECTIVE
The Instructional Assistant offers support to the teacher by providing specific duties relevant to the classroom to which he / she is assigned.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains ethical behavior and confidentiality of information concerning students. Maintains accurate and complete records and is punctual in submitting reports when assigned. Assists with instructional activities as directed. Assists with enforcing and maintaining discipline policies and practices as directed. Alerts the appropriate teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student. Assists with the supervision of students in all aspects of school day (including class time, recess, lunch, fire drills, activity periods, field trips and any other times as assigned). Assists with wash-up and toilet routines, where applicable. Helps students with their clothing, where applicable. Communicates enthusiasm for learning. Keeps bulletin board and other learning displays up to date as required. Demonstrates willingness to perform other related duties and jobs as requested to promote a conducive and safe classroom and school. Is able to lift at least 100 pounds with assistance, where applicable. Employee's absences are neither frequent nor severe. Employee notifies the school secretary by 8:00 a.m. the day of their (sick leave) absence. Personal leave days must be approved prior to the time off. Employee is prompt in reporting to work and complies with meal and break schedules. Employee is appropriately dressed and grooming as related to the job. Employee demonstrates acceptable manner, integrity, and ethics as related to the job (including in matters of student, employee and school confidentiality). Employee demonstrates the ability to work well and behave courteously with associates, supervisors, and the public to the extent required. Employee requires a minimal amount of supervision and performs duties as assigned. Employee shows interest and enthusiasm toward work and the district as a whole. Employee participates in workshops and staff development as required. Employee produces adequate volume of work which is to a large degree error free.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Requires prolonged sitting or standing; occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials; medium work (exerting up to 125 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force as needed to move objects); occasional stooping, bending, and reaching. Requires physical dexterity needed to assist students (by lifting, pushing, pulling, or other means) as required by the needs of the child.
TERMS:
This is a permanent, full-time, non-exempt position with 185 workdays in the school year.
EVALUATION
Classified Employee Evaluations will be used as directed by the administration.
