Job Description
SMT Technician III - 1st
Shift Summary :
Works collaboratively to set up and operate assigned production equipment to assemble electronic and mechanical components onto circuit boards using both automated systems and manual placement, while meeting established targets for quality, efficiency, and productivity. Apply advanced technical knowledge and partners with team members to optimize equipment performance, ensuring all assemblies are built to print and comply with applicable workmanship standards. Monitors process through audits, inspection, and troubleshooting to maintain equipment and production within acceptable parameters. Leverages experience to identify process improvement opportunities and actively support continuous improvement initiatives within the SMT team. Department SMT (117) Employment Type Full Time Location Chester, CT Workplace type Onsite Reporting To John Rucker Duties and Responsibilities Applies advanced technical skills to execute established procedures using specialized equipment, tools, materials, and processes within the assigned production area Demonstrates strong situational awareness and ownership in setting up and operating continuous-flow production lines to maximize output and minimize waste Takes full responsibility during the shift for the performance of assigned production lines, ensuring efficient operation, quality control, and adherence to safety and productivity standards Monitors equipment performance, troubleshoots issues, and makes necessary adjustments to maintain optimal operating conditions Utilizes advanced technical knowledge to resolve complex problems and support teammates, while collaborating with leadership, maintenance, quality, and external vendors to achieve timely resolutions Identifies and drives process improvement opportunities, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and increased operational efficiency Works both independently and collaboratively across one or more production lines, effectively managing time and priorities to meet production targets Sets up and operates production equipment using both automated systems and manual placement techniques Trains and mentors team members to enhance their understanding of equipment, processes, and best practices Assists other technicians as needed to support overall team performance and throughput Maintains control of inventory and manages stock of supplies required for production and maintenance tasks Reads and interprets blueprints, job orders, specifications, schematics, wiring diagrams, and process documentation Applies appropriate soldering materials and techniques, including safe handling of solder paste Uses a variety of hand tools and precision measuring instruments, including calipers Maintains a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and workmanship to ensure quality output.What We're Looking For:
Experience working in manufacturing, production, or assembly preferred but not required Basic computer literacy and comfortable using technology like computers or tablets Good hand-eye coordination, and attention to detail Able to multitask and stay focused in a busy, fast-paced environment A team player with good communication skills Willingness to learn new technologies and product builds Dependable and on time Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required Prior manufacturing experience preferred but not required Physical demands and abilities Able to lift up to 35 pounds Regularly performs repetitive tasks Able to stand for entire shift Regularly possesses manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
