Broward County's first city is undergoing an exciting renaissance, and we are seeking an experienced, strategic, and results-driven leader to serve as our Public Services Deputy Director. The ideal candidate will perform advanced professional engineering work supporting the City's development and infrastructure initiatives. This role serves as a key member of the Public Services leadership team, assisting the Director in planning, organizing, and overseeing departmental operations, including capital improvement projects, and stepping in as needed. The incumbent applies technical expertise across a broad range of areas, including engineering, infrastructure planning, stormwater management, water and wastewater systems, roadway improvements, and related services. Responsibilities include reviewing site plans, plats, and permits to ensure compliance with City codes and regulations, providing guidance to design professionals, and preparing reports and recommendations. This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex engineering and construction challenges, as well as the ability to coordinate effectively with internal departments and external agencies such as Broward County, SFWMD, and FDOT. The role demands sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to support the successful delivery of citywide projects and services. Review site plans, plats, and building permits for compliance with drainage, paving and grading, water, and sewer requirements. Supervise the work of division supervisory staff and work teams; assign work activities, projects, and programs; monitor work flow, schedule, and budget; coaches, motivate, monitor, correct, and evaluate performance; develop and implement staff training programs and plans, particularly in employee safety; recommend employee recognition, discipline, and termination Oversee, participate, and manage the development of Capital Improvement Program budgets; participate in the forecast of expenses and additional funds needed for staffing, consultants, equipment, materials, and supplies; administer the approved budget and capital improvements program. Draft memoranda, letters, and other forms of correspondence; prepare various reports, presentations; and report/present findings to Public Services Director, City Manager, City Commission, Committees, Developers, and members of the community. Respond to and meet with property owners, homeowner groups, business districts, and the public; meet and negotiate with various regulatory agencies; represent the City as a witness in legal actions. Manage special programs and coordinate engineering assistance to other departments. Participate in City Commission meetings and other community meetings, as required. Perform related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position. What's required: (Minimum Requirements) Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field. Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible municipal or engineering experience. Two (2) years supervisory experience, along with substantial experience in managing public works capital improvement programs, transportation engineering, and development planning. Must possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Florida, or the ability to obtain one within eight (8) months of hire. Possession of a valid driver's license with overall good driving record required. If driver's license is out of state, must be able to obtain a Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire date.
