Job Description

The Supervisor of Vehicle Schedules will assist the Manager of Plans and Schedules with overseeing the design and preparation of all vehicle, operator, roster, and public schedules for Bus and Subway Operations necessary to meet the scheduling needs of the Authority. Build or maintain vehicle, crew, and roster schedules in a computerized schedule database, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Develop schedules for new service launches, service modifications, and temporary substitute services, including bus or rail shuttles required for construction or maintenance activities. Aid with computer scheduling system development and enhancement, implement and/or coordinate ongoing staff training. Confer with Operations and Service Planning staff regarding their needs to modify existing schedules. Represent the Plans and Schedules Department at Service Committee meetings as well as other internal and external meetings. Prepare statistical and descriptive summary reports for distribution to appropriate administrative and operating departments. Maximize the use of MBTA equipment and staffing resources while minimizing unnecessary costs. Perform analyses of labor work rules and practices seeking to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of timetables. Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co-worker courteously and professionally. Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees. Available to work as per assignment by the MBTA twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven. (7) days per week as directed by supervisory staff for severe weather conditions, emergencies, or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service. Work all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed. Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable), and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment, and Anti-Retaliation policies. Perform related duties and projects as assigned. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Technology, Public Administration, Business, Transportation Planning or a related field. Four (4) years of experience in transit service planning, transit scheduling, or analysis. Related experience in a supervisory capacity. Effective organizational, analytical, multi-tasking, time management and interpersonal skills. The ability to use Word, Excel, databases, geographic information system, and schedule software applications (such as HASTUS or Trapeze). Handle sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner. Possess excellent customer service, conflict resolution and presentation skills. Have the ability to work any and all shifts and or locations as assigned or directed. Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce. A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelor's degree requirement. An associate degree from an accredited institution with an additional three (3) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelor's degree requirement. A master's degree in a related subject substitutes for two (2) years of general experience. A nationally recognized certification or statewide/professional certification in a related field substitutes for one year of experience. Preferred Experience and Skills A Master's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Technology, Public Administration, Business, Transportation Planning or a related field. Experience in transit service planning. Experience in transit operations. Related experience in a supervisory capacity overseeing direct reports, consultants, and/or project management.
