As the City evolves through transformative growth, we are seeking a dynamic Chief Building Official to join our leadership team and help guide the city through its next chapter of smart, sustainable, responsive growth.   • Duties
  • Reviews plans, specifications, and other data to ensure the accuracy in meeting the minimum requirements of applicable building and construction codes and all state and federal requirements.
  • Conducts presentations in public and official forums concerning building projects, how issues are addressed, and projected impacts.
  • Provides information and technical assistance to citizens, property owners, contactors, developers, architects, engineers, staff members, city officials, or other individuals or agencies regarding building activities, land use activities, code and ordinance information, land development, review procedures, or other issues that pertain to the department.
  • Coordinates and promotes building activities with other governmental agencies, private agencies, and other groups.
  • Coordinates and assists in the building permit application intake procedures and calculating of building permit fees on both residential and commercial applications.
  • Conducts proper and timely inspections for compliance with applicable codes and city ordinances through various activities including but not limited to inspecting structures for dangerous conditions and ordering discontinued use or the vacation of the building.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training seminars to stay abreast of laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, review and revision of adopted building codes, zoning ordinance, and municipal code pertaining to the department.
  • Oversees and participates in the review and adoption of new building codes with surrounding government entities to ensure consistency in building standards.
  • Supervises, plans, and organizes workloads and staff assignments; trains, motivates, reviews progress and directs changes as needed.
  • Prepares and conducts employee performance evaluations and disciplinary actions. Notifies department head regarding employee actions.
  • Provides direction and technical assistance to staff regarding application process and issuance of building permits; collection and receipting of monies; scheduling and monitoring of inspections; preparation of reports and correspondence; processing of applications; and other related building function activities.
