Employment Opportunity Community Services Director, Salaried, Appointed Open until Filled The City of Deming is currently recruiting for the position of Community Services Director. This is a Mayor-appointed, at-will, contract position. This position provides leadership and supervision to managers, supervisors, and staff across multiple City departments while ensuring daily operations run efficiently, comply with regulations, and align with the City's strategic goals. The role oversees budgets, resource allocation, and capital improvement projects, including infrastructure maintenance and interdepartmental services. Responsibilities include developing and implementing both short- and long-term operational plans, coordinating projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget, and serving as a liaison between City leadership, staff, and the community. The position also supports workforce development through training, mentoring, and performance management. Desired Education and/or Experience Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in land-use planning, urban planning, public administration or closely related field, five (5) years' experience in community development; or any equivalent combination of education and experience, with additional education substituting on a year for year basis for the required experience.
Other Desired Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Applicants should possess the ability to communicate orally and in writing; be able to establish effective working relationships and interact with architects, contractors, developers, owners, supervisors, employees, and the general public; possess the ability to prepare and analyze comprehensive and technical reports and data; as well as possess the ability and organizational skills required to oversee and manage multiple city-wide projects. Applicants should possess a thorough knowledge of zoning laws and comprehensive plans, including their formation, process of adoption, and enforcement; extensive knowledge of planning programs and processes; a working knowledge of personal computers and GIS applications; considerable working knowledge of HUD Community Development Block Grant and other urban development programs.
