Job Description

Itron is innovating new ways for utilities and cities to manage energy and water. We create a more resourceful world to protect essential resources for today and tomorrow. Join us. For decades, Itron has been delivering critical energy and water infrastructure services to customers around the globe—and we're just getting started. As a technology leader in the Utilities & Energy sector, Itron provides industry‑leading electric and gas forecasting consulting services, software, and training to utilities, system operators, transmission companies, and energy providers worldwide. Join us and help design the future of resource management through advanced analytics, innovative software solutions, and customer‑centric expertise. As a Forecast Consultant on Itron's Forecasting Solutions Team, you will work alongside a global group of energy forecasting experts to deliver long‑term and real‑time forecasting solutions that support grid operations, distribution planning, and regulatory decision‑making. This is a highly technical, client‑facing role that blends data science, energy market expertise, and software implementation with clear communication and authentic partnership. Duties and Responsibilities Provide direct, customer‑centric technical and software support for Itron's long‑term distribution forecasting applications and related forecasting solutions. Manage and execute forecasting consulting projects with accountability for quality, timelines, and client outcomes. Develop, test, and enhance advanced forecasting models, including geospatial customer growth forecasts and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) adoption models (e.g., Bass diffusion and propensity‑to‑adopt models). Analyze historical market, load, and customer data to support short‑term, long‑term, and scenario‑based forecasting needs. Implement, test, and support both existing and new software modules, working collaboratively with internal product, engineering, and analytics teams. Serve as a subject matter expert in DER technologies, including solar PV, battery storage, and electric vehicles (light‑, medium‑, and heavy‑duty), translating emerging market trends into actionable insights for clients. Present forecasts, methodologies, and analytical results to clients and stakeholders in regulatory, executive, and technical forums, demonstrating clarity, confidence, and authenticity. Defend key assumptions, methodologies, and modeling approaches in regulatory and stakeholder environments with professionalism and technical rigor. Deliver workshops, training sessions, webinars, and conference presentations to support client success and knowledge transfer. Contribute to Itron's thought leadership by authoring blogs, white papers, and internal or external presentations that reflect innovation and industry insight. Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams to continuously improve forecasting tools, methodologies, and customer experiences in an agile environment. Required Skills & Experience 10-15+ years of experience in the energy industry (utility, consulting, research, or related roles). Deep expertise in Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), including market analysis, adoption projections, and load shape modeling. Significant experience with time‑series forecasting using statistical and machine‑learning techniques. Strong proficiency with database technologies and data environments (e.g., SQL, Oracle). Experience using code‑based data and statistical modeling tools; proficiency in Python, R, or SAS strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, including regulators and executive stakeholders. Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams while managing multiple priorities with accountability and attention to detail. Customer‑focused mindset with a passion for delivering high‑quality, data‑driven solutions. Preferred Skills & Experience Advanced degree in economics, data science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science, information systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience. Strong knowledge of econometrics, statistics, calculus, and advanced data science methodologies. Experience working with geospatial data and GIS‑based forecasting applications. Exposure to software R D processes and agile development environments. Experience supporting forecasting efforts in regulatory or policy‑driven settings.
