The incumbent provides psychological care and services to Veterans with mental health conditions. The incumbent also offers mental health consultion and liaison support to primary care providers within the primary care clinic the Lyons Mental Health Clinic. Provides individual psychotherapy to Veterans experiencing a range of mental health conditions, including those identified by primary care providers as having depression, PTSD, suicidal ideion, or alcohol and/or substance use disorders. Additionally, provides couples counseling and family therapy when clinically approprie. Conducts mental health triage for Veterans referred by primary care providers for urgent mental health concerns or for those requiring support, intervention, or risk assessment. Delivers time-limited individual and group psychotherapies designed to promote healthy adjustment to long-term medical conditions, with particular emphasis on Veterans whose medical issues increase their risk for secondary complicions. Participes in the collection of assessment informion and the development of comprehensive trement plans for Veterans. Serves on hospital committees as assigned and functions as an advisor, consultant, and resource to medical center staff. Maintains accure records and follow-up da for assigned Veterans. The basic requirements for employment as a VHA psychologist are prescribed by Public Law 96-151 codified in 38 U.S.C. § 7402. To qualify for appointment, all applicants for the position of psychologist in VHA must meet the following:Citizenship:
Be a citizen of the United Stes. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3.g, this part.)Educion:
Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a gradue program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Associion (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accredition System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Associion (CPA) the time the program was completed. The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED TO VERIFY EDUCATION
OR, b. Have a doctoral degree in any area of psychology and, in addition, successfully complete a re- specializion program (including documention of an approved internship completed as part of the re- specializion program) meeting both of the following conditions: The re-specializion program must be completed in an APA or a CPA accredited doctoral program; and, the specialty in which the applicant is retrained must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. c. Have a doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally accredited institution, with a dissertion primarily psychological in nure. AND 3.Internship:
Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program th was accredited by APA or CPA the time the program was completed and th is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. New VHA psychology internship programs th are in the process of applying for APA accredition are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided th such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Office of Academic Affiliions the time th the individual was an intern. OR , b.VHA facilities th offered full-time, one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to

Quality of Experience :
Experience is only creditable if it is post-doctoral experience as a professional psychologist directly reled to the duties to be performed. Qualifying experience must also be a level comparable to or exceeding professional psychology experience the next lower level.Part-time Experience :
Part-time experience is creditable according to its relionship to a full- time workweek. For example, a psychologist employed 20 hours per week, or on a half time basis, would receive one full-time workweek of credit for each two weeks of service.Post-Doctoral Degree Fellowships:
Postdoctoral fellowships or residencies are training programs in an advanced area of clinical practice. Training as a fellow or resident is creditable experience on a year-for-year basis. GS-11 (Entry Level):Experience:

At least 1 year of experience as a professional psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11).
