This is a deep class recruitment, meaning we are accepting applications from candidates across a range of experience levels and will determine the appropriate title and compensation at the time of hire based on each finalist's qualifications, demonstrated skills, and capacity to work independently. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for the Policy Analyst level; those with more advanced experience may be placed at the Senior Policy Analyst level. Both levels carry the same core responsibilities, with the Senior level distinguished by greater depth of expertise, stronger independent judgment, and a more substantial track record in the field. Knowledge of the criminal and juvenile justice systems, effective violence reduction and system reform strategies, and the roles of government, philanthropy, and community-based organizations in this work will be essential to this position's success. Work products are primarily public-facing and include research reports, policy briefs, data visualizations, and presentations prepared for government agencies, philanthropic partners, and community stakeholders. The Policy Analyst/Senior Policy Analyst will report to the Director of Data and Research and will work closely with other staff to coordinate projects, conduct research, write reports, and collect data on various organizational initiatives.
Core responsibilities include:
Collect, clean, code, and analyze quantitative data. Develop and maintain script libraries, standard operating procedures, and other cross-project data analysis tools. Draft interview protocols, conduct interviews and focus groups, analyze qualitative data. Develop data visualizations for diverse audiences and develop, format, and prepare reports, charts, and/or graphs. Coordinate projects and initiatives, often with local government agencies or other stakeholders. Actively participate in project and team meetings. Conduct research on policies, programs, strategies, and organizations in the fields of criminal and juvenile justice, youth development, violence reduction, organizational development, and other relevant areas. Write papers, briefs, reports, proposals and articles on criminal justice, youth development, and violence reduction. Track project timeline, deliverables, and internal/external partners across multiple projects and teams, proactively communicating progress and potential challenges to supervisors and project teams. Support and facilitate NICJR trainings - including learning curriculum and conducting portions of the trainings. Occasionally travel to support client engagements and attend team meetings, retreats, and conferences.
