Job Description

Position Summary Teamsters Joint Council 25 is the umbrella organization for all Teamster Local Unions in Illinois and northwest Indiana representing more than 100,000 men and women in nearly every industry from transportation and construction to healthcare and government. Teamsters Joint Council 25 is seeking an experienced, motivated, and strategic Legislative & Political Affairs Representative / Lobbyist to advocate on behalf of affiliated Teamster local unions and members before the Illinois General Assembly, constitutional officers, state agencies, and other governmental entities. This position will play a critical role in advancing the legislative, regulatory, political, and policy priorities of Joint Council 25 and the Teamsters throughout the State of Illinois. The successful candidate will work closely with union leadership, affiliated local unions, elected officials, labor coalitions, and community stakeholders to promote policies that protect and strengthen working families, collective bargaining rights, pensions, workplace safety, infrastructure investment, and economic justice. Primary Responsibilities Represent Joint Council 25 before the Governor's Office and Illinois General Assembly on legislative and policy matters impacting Teamster members and organized labor. Monitor, analyze, and track legislation, amendments, committee hearings, and regulatory proposals. Develop and execute legislative and political strategies in coordination with Joint Council leadership and affiliated local unions. Build and maintain productive working relationships with legislators, legislative staff, constitutional officers, labor organizations, and coalition partners. Draft legislative summaries, position papers, testimony, talking points, correspondence, and policy recommendations. Attend legislative hearings, stakeholder meetings, political events, and labor coalition meetings. Coordinate political and legislative outreach efforts, including member mobilization, advocacy campaigns, and political communications. Assist with political endorsements, campaign engagement, and legislative scorecard analysis. Provide regular reports and updates to Joint Council leadership regarding legislative and political developments. Travel throughout Illinois as necessary in support of legislative, political, and organizational priorities. Qualifications Experience in government relations, lobbying, legislative affairs, political campaigns, labor relations, public policy, or related fields strongly preferred. Strong understanding of the legislative process and Illinois state government. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and strategic planning abilities. Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with leadership and affiliated organizations. Commitment to the labor movement and advocacy for working people. Familiarity with organized labor, collective bargaining, and union structures preferred. Bachelor's degree preferred, but relevant experience will be considered. Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits package.
