Sustainability and Innovations -
Municipal Operations Intern Starting Hourly Rate:
$18.68,
Work Schedule :
up to 40 hours per week (This is a temporary position and can work from May to the end of August 2026) The Sustainability and Innovations Municipal Operations Intern reports to the Senior Analyst for Municipal Operations in the Sustainability and Innovations Unit at the City of Ann Arbor.
Nature of Work:
This position supports the City's efforts to track and manage energy usage across City facilities. Specifically, this position will develop, add to, refine, and analyze a comprehensive database of City facilities including addresses, utility account numbers, meter numbers, facility names, and more. To develop this database, the position will need to review and sort pdf bills for various City facilities and support the transferring of bill data from pdfs into data spreadsheets. The position will involve minimal travel to certain City facilities to locate and photograph onsite equipment (i.e., Electrical meter, gas meter, etc.) and validate utility-bill information. The position will also support other relevant sustainability initiatives within the Sustainability and Innovations unit and Municipal Operations team. By the end of the internship, the position will have supported the creation of a comprehensive municipal facility energy-usage and account database that can be used to inform energy-related decision making.
Required Qualifications:
Strong interest in sustainability and energy-related topics. Proficient in Microsoft Office application suite. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to translate complex information into easily accessible formats. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university at the time of hire. Must have a valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience using excel to track and analyze large data sets. Strong analytical skills. Familiarity with electricity and natural gas billing.
