We connect our communities with local, regional, and national partners specializing in legal services, advocacy, education, and other resources to ensure immigrants thrive and fully contribute to their communities. Through public education and grassroots community organizing, IAJE provides vital information to immigrant communities in Mississippi. Position Summary:
IAJE invites applications for a Policy Analyst position. The Policy Analyst advances our mission to promote justice and equity by conducting policy research, analyzing legislation and supporting community-driven advocacy strategies. This role bridges research, community voice and legislative action. The Policy Analyst works closely with community partners and coalition members to ensure policy priorities reflect lived experience and advance health, economic and racial equity. The successful applicant will be tasked with the following:
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee, implement, and ensure the development of the IAJE's policy agenda and coordinate the organization's policy efforts in collaboration with partners, allies, community organizations, think tanks, and government agencies. IAJE's policy agenda will include analysis of local, state, and federal immigration and equity related policies with a particular emphasis on public health. Work with Policy Lead to develop and implement a plan to promote IAJE's policy initiatives and emerging issues and ensure that relevant programmatic materials are developed and disseminated to stakeholders as needed. Outreach materials might include policy briefs, White papers, reports, fact sheets, action alerts, and public education materials reflecting current programmatic work and policy initiatives. Act as the liaison to the Policy Lead, stakeholders, and other partners. Build and maintain working relationships with community stakeholders to promote and expand the policy department's community outreach and engagement in public policy initiatives as well as coalition development. Work to build the capacity of the IAJE in public policy grassroots advocacy through stakeholder education- training, information, and support either directly or by supporting the efforts of others. Ensure that community stakeholders are provided with opportunities and information to inform policy goals and strategies effectively and knowledgeably. Conduct and convene meetings and conferences regarding specific policy initiatives as needed, comprising appropriate membership and community partner representatives. Work with the Policy Lead of the IAJE to track legislative and administrative actions and develop annual reports of public policy efforts and outcomes to support community, stakeholder, and partner engagement that broadly informs them of IAJE'S public policy goals and accomplishments. Draft testimonies, letters to the editor, talking points and communications material in coordination with communications staff.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidates with at least a bachelor's degree in public policy and administration, economics, public health, political science or a related field are preferred. Candidates with at least 18 credit hours of graduate coursework in public policy are desired. We are particularly interested in candidates with at least 3 years of experience defined above. Internship experience is acceptable. We seek a candidate with a solid political network, social justice, and public policy research record who can combine impactful scholarship with community engagement. Candidates with current policy white paper publications are strongly preferred. We are also seeking candidates who can work collaboratively and collegially with IAJE staff and community stakeholders and have positive excellent interpersonal communication administration and grant writing experience. Candidates must comprehensively understand public policy advocacy and the development of community interventions. The successful applicant for Public Analyst will: Be skilled in reviewing legislation and administrative decisions to assess and articulate its potential impact on immigrant families, especially when it comes to public health issues. Be able to translate program evaluations from the projects of the IAJE into policy recommendations on the state, local, and national levels. Be able to work collaboratively with the Director, IAJE staff, and other policy professionals to complete and publish policy briefs and white papers based on the policy recommendations developed from the IAJE projects.
