Duties Description This position is located in the Licensing and Regulatory Compliance Unit within the New York State Department of Health's Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement. This position is responsible for providing program-level support to the Licensing and Regulatory Compliance Unit, including but not limited to review of incoming license applications for compliance with application requirements, and review of requests for destruction of controlled substances. The Student Assistant will assist with other projects as assigned, including but not limited to conducting research to support development of regulations or policy, prepare written communications (emails, procedures and other documentation) for stakeholders. The Student Assistant ensures high-level decision making and strategy is informed by research, analysis and well-organized program operations. The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be a matriculated undergraduate or graduate college student. Documentation of Fall 2026 matriculation and enrollment in the Fall semester must be submitted with your resume.

Experience coordinating multiple concurrent tasks or projects under tight timelines Experience researching, collecting, and analyzing information to prepare written reports, memoranda, presentations, or briefing documents Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and SharePoint, including document version control Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to proofread and format technical documents Ability to interpret statutes, regulations, and policy guidance and summarize key points clearly Excellent organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage confidential information Preferred Majors Public Administration Paralegal Studies or other Law Degree Program Public Health Pharmacy Business Administration Project Management Additional comments regarding the vacancy. Must maintain matriculated student status to retain employment. Telecommuting is permissible up to 50% of working hours based on operational needs and at the discretion of the assigned Program area.
