In person days will be required at the office address listed below: Tennessee Department of Education Andrew Johnson Tower 710 James Robertson Parkway Nashville, TN 37243 Who we are and what we do: The Policy and Legislative Affairs (PLA) team works with the Commissioner to amplify and advocate for the Departments policy and legislative strategy in order to secure alignment on issues related to K-12 education, coordinates all legislative activity for the Department, and serves as a resource for the General Assembly, elected officials and strategic partners across the state.

Key Responsibilities:

Advising the Commissioner and leadership on legislative policy areas. Monitoring legislative committees, meeting with members of the General Assembly, testifying before legislative committees and other public speaking, drafting talking points and reports, tracking legislation, and assisting with the logistics of legislative session. Developing strong relationships with legislators and advocacy partners through genuine, strategic engagement. Assisting with inquiries from legislators, advocacy partners, and constituents. Support any special projects or initiatives at the direction of the Commissioner of Education, or leadership.
