LSG:
The Legislative Study Group (LSG) is an official caucus of the Texas House of Representatives, chaired by Representative Armando Walle. During legislative sessions, LSG's primary mission is to provide members with analyses and recommendations on every bill that comes up for a floor vote in the House. To achieve this, our team of analysts follows bills through their assigned committees, evaluates their impacts, conducts stakeholder outreach, and produces comprehensive analyses. Additionally, LSG offers educational support to members and their staff through in-person briefings and policy reports. For more information, visit TexasLSG.org.
Position Overview:
LSG is seeking a Deputy Director to begin in August 2026 and continue through June 2027. This is a full-time, in-person position that reports directly to the Executive Director. The ideal candidate will be passionate about advancing progressive policies that benefit all Texans, have a talent for research and writing, and enjoy leading a team. We are seeking a self-starter who is eager to take initiative and play an active role in the diverse projects that keep a research caucus thriving in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Job Duties:
Programming, Professional Development, and Operations:
Lead and oversee a team analysts assigned to certain committees Assist the Executive Director in all aspects of team professional development, including training and mentoring analysts Assist the Executive Director in planning and organizing educational briefings for analysts and caucus members Other duties as assigned
Research, Writing and Editing:
Edit daily floor reports Write policy analyses as needed Collaborate with the Executive Director on policy reports Stay current on assigned policy areas Build and maintain relationships with legislative offices and stakeholders in assigned policy areas
Requirements:
At least one legislative session at the Texas Capitol Strong research and writing skills Familiarity with the legislative process Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Willingness to work long hours, including weekends and holidays if needed, during the
Legislative Session Salary & Benefits:
Salary will be commensurate with experience, with a minimum of $4,750/month. Benefits include medical, dental, vision insurance, retirement plans, and more.
