  • 5/10/2026 Key Responsibilities Join the Utah DHHS Tobacco Prevention and Control Program (TPCP) for an internship focused on the intersection of data and public outreach.
We are seeking two interns to support our mission of reducing tobacco-related health disparities and preventing youth nicotine dependence through one of two opportunities:
Epidemiology Intern :
You will work directly with our program epidemiologist to collect, analyze, and interpret tobacco-related data to identify trends and evaluate program impact.
Media & Communications Intern :
You will focus on youth tobacco prevention by assisting with the development and implementation of strategic media campaigns and community outreach. Both roles offer a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public health, whether your strengths lie in data analysis or creative communication. Qualifications The Ideal Candidate Education & Knowledge Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related field. Recent graduates (within 1 year) are also eligible to apply. Basic understanding of Public Health principles and Health Equity. Classwork completed in public health statistics, epidemiology, and evaluation (epidemiology intern).
Technical & Research Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications. Ability to navigate the internet efficiently for research and information gathering. Strong interest in tasks related to public health data (literature reviews, survey development, data analysis and interpretation, mapping, data visualization, and reporting) Interest or experience in creating visual materials using tools like Canva, InDesign, or Publisher.

Important Notes Employment Status:
This is an indefinite, non-benefited position.
Work Format:
This is a hybrid position that requires at least one day a week working in person at the office; the remaining scheduled hours may be worked remotely.
Residency Requirement:
You must have the ability to perform all work from within the State of Utah boundaries no later than 30 days from your start date.
