Community Development Technician SALARY:
$20.56 - $26.31

$1,644.41 - $2,104.96

POSITION SUMMARY
Under supervision, performs duties within the Community Development Department requiring an understanding of land use, code enforcement and building activities; performs other work as required. The following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of all positions in the class. They are descriptive, not limiting.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning Services Processes new business license submittals; Assists in processing tentative subdivision and parcel maps; Reviews land use applications for accuracy and completeness; Prepares zoning maps; Posts notices and prepares mailings for public hearing on individual properties; Handles questions at the public counter; Assists with implementation of housing programs including review of financial loan documents, payment tracking, termite reports, escrow monitoring, title reports and appraisals; Maintains accurate records and other reports related to assigned projects; Building Services Processes building permit applications; Calculates fees; Issues permits and reviews minor construction plans for completeness; Organizes and process code enforcement complaints; Researches ownership and lien holder records; Processes demolition and repair orders; Provides the public with information regarding building codes, property maintenance and related building and zoning ordinances;
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or GED program; Two (2) years' experience in planning or public administration with an emphasis in building construction, architecture, or engineering relating to the permitting, processing or reviewing of building plans and specification, code enforcement or zoning compliance, Or; An equivalent combination of training, education and experience which provides the capabilities to perform the described duties; Possession of a valid Class "C" California driver's license required
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The City of McFarland offers an excellent benefit package including: Comprehensive City paid medical, dental, and vision benefits for the employee and Dependents. Life insurance equal to 1-year base salary with a minimum of $50,000
Retirement:
Deferred Compensation 401(k) -The City of McFarland contributes an additional 10% of an employee's pay each pay period into a 401K plan, immediately upon hire, at no cost to the employee. Supplemental life insurance (Optional) Deferred Compensation 457 Plan (Optional) AFLAC (Optional) 12 days' vacation and 12 days sick pay accrued annually. 12 Days Holiday Pay 9/80 Work Schedule- every other Friday off

Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required Two (2) years of planning, permitting, code enforcement, or related municipal experience preferred Knowledge of zoning, permitting, and building/code enforcement processes Experience reviewing applications and plans for completeness Ability to calculate fees and maintain accurate records Strong customer service and communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office and permit tracking systems Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
