Job Description
Are you a student interested in gaining hands-on experience in local government? Our Early Career Experience Internship Program is a paid, six-week, 20-hour-per-week opportunity designed for students to develop skills, build networks, and make a difference in our community. This internship is fully in-person, providing interns with hands-on experience and direct collaboration with staff and project teams. This year, internship opportunities are available in two focus areas: Transportation Team Internship - Gain exposure to transportation planning, sustainable mobility initiatives, and regional safety planning projects. Interns may assist with transportation research, mobility program support, and regional partnership activities while learning about current transportation issues and community-focused planning efforts. Finance Team Internship - Gain hands-on experience in public-sector finance through support with fiscal year closeout activities, project financial analysis, budgeting, and grant management. Interns will work alongside the Finance Team to learn about financial operations and project coordination in a collaborative government environment. This program is ideal for individuals who are curious about public service, eager to learn, and excited to build professional skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.

This six-week internship program is open to all students who meet the criteria of the program. Formed as a Joint Powers Authority, SACOG is governed by a board of 31 elected officials that directly represent all six counties and 22 cities in the region, and one ex-officio member (Caltrans). Work alongside experienced professionals in areas like finance and transportation Gain exposure to how local and regional government agencies collaborate Participate in team projects Develop a stronger understanding of public service career pathways Build your professional network and resume through meaningful, real-world experience We're looking for candidates who are: Enrolled in school At least 18 years of age Available 20 hours per week in-person Physical Demands This position requires medium physical activity in an in doors office environment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Positions in this classification also crawl, kneel, crouch, stoop and reach overhead and below shoulder level to set up for meetings. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 50poundsa distance of approximately 100 feet.ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS
This is primarily a sedentary classification and the employee works in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. The employee interfaces with staff, management, other agency representatives, member jurisdictions, government officials, business representatives, and the general public in explaining SACOG policies and requesting and providing information.
