Casual Description •Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Special Other Conditions Two positions are available. To begin as soon as May 18, 2026. Renewal of positions are subject to satisfactory work performance and availability of funds. Description The Design Project Assistant supports applied design, research, visualization, and engagement efforts associated with the Office of Planning & Spatial Experience (OPSE), the Campus Design Lab (CDL), and related campus and community initiatives. The position assists with architectural, graphic, digital, and spatial design work supporting campus planning, stakeholder engagement, communications, and research-based design projects. Duties and Responsibilities Assist with design, visualization, research, and documentation efforts related to campus and community projects. Prepare graphic materials, diagrams, renderings, layouts, digital media, presentations, and physical or digital models to support project communication and stakeholder engagement. Support research activities including precedent studies, data collection, literature review, site documentation, and organization of project materials. Assist with stakeholder engagement activities including meetings, workshops, presentations, and collaborative events. Coordinate and maintain digital files, project documentation, and presentation materials. Collaborate with faculty, staff, student employees, consultants, and external partners on interdisciplinary design and research projects. Support the production of reports, project deliverables, and communication materials. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a baccalaureate degree in architecture, environmental design, graphic design, planning, or a related field and one (1) year experience in architectural, graphic, digital, and spatial design and/or any equivalent combination of education and professional experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and related software. Experience with digital modeling and visualization software such as Rhino, Revit, AutoCAD, or comparable programs is desirable. Demonstrated design, graphic communication, research, organizational, and writing skills. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in team and community-facing environments. Ability to work conscientiously, efficiently, independently, and professionally on multiple assignments. Desirable Qualifications Experience with Webflow, Grasshopper, animation, motion graphics, or digital fabrication workflows. Experience working on architectural, urban, landscape, or community-based design projects. Demonstrated model-making, visualization, or graphic presentation abilities as evidenced through academic or professional portfolio work. Experience collaborating with students, faculty, or multidisciplinary project teams.
