PLANNER II

1476) The City of Overland Park has a full-time Planner II position available in the Planning & Development Services Department.SUMMARY:
Reviews and analyzes development proposals, prepares staffments and provides staff support for various review bodies. Responds to Zoning and Development inquiries from staff and the general public. Participates on the Plan Review Committee. Manages updates of long range planning documents and provide analysis of data, and other duties as assigned. . Serves as Planner of the Day.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves on the Plan Review Committee. Act as project manager for assigned cases. Reviews development proposals to ensurepliance with City's development ordinances, adopted policies and guidelines. Coordinatesmunication with internal staff and applicants ensuring applicants are aware of issues, alternatives, deadlines, notice requirements and fees. Responds to citizen inquiries. Prepares a staff report and stipulations for presentation to the appropriate review body. Coordinates supporting maps, plans and other documents to effectivelymunicate proposals to the review body, general public and for placement on the web. Manages updates to the Comprehensive Plan, Annual Development and related documents and maps. Compiles data related to land use, population, housing and development for use in updating long range planning documents. Prepares written analysis and reports. Identifies need for and prepares special studies related to land use issues. Coordinates all map changes with the GIS Analyst. Makes presentations to the public and review bodies. Prepares documents for placement on the web. Serves as Planner of the Day on a rotating basis. Assists citizens by phone or in person answering a wide variety of inquiries regarding planning issues. Provides interpretations of the Unified Development Ordinance and other city regulations relating to land development and land use. Processes various types of applications. Answers questions about scheduling, application status and the public hearing process. Reviews construction plans for assigned developments against plans approved by Planning Commission. Completes reviews within the established time frames. Communicates results of review. Identifies and makes rmendations regarding enhancements to division procedures, codes and guidelines and the development review process. Researches proposed amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance and other codes, policies and guidelines and makes rmendations to staff and review bodies. Participates in emergency management operations for the City, as requested. Carries out and/or performs other duties as assigned. The employee must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) tomunicate with subordinates, supervisors, customers, vendors and any other persons or organization with whom interaction is required to aplish work and employer goals. The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, w applicable.REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in planning, landscape architecture, architecture, urban design, or a related field. Three years of experience in current planning or as a generalist planner, or an equivalent level of experience.SKILLS:
Excellent oral and writtenmunication skills. Good listening skills. Group presentation skills. Time management skills Good word processing, spreadsheet and graphic presentation skills.MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
