BENEFITS General Definition of Work The City of Jacksonville is seeking a Planner who can successfully perform intermediate professional and administrative work assisting with and implementing a variety of urban and/or long-range planning activities, while completing related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Planning Administrator or their designee. The job selection process allows for the selection of a candidate at either the Planner 1 or Senior Planner position based on their experience and education. Reviews development and related land use permit applications, site plans, subdivision plats, etc. Examines applications for compliance with established plans and ordinances, and applicable local, state or federal regulation. Gathers, assimilates, interprets and analyzes a variety of data, requests and information pertaining to planning and zoning operations. Assists with professional and administrative support to Planning Board, Board of Adjustments and City Council as required. Receives, researches and processes zoning questions, requests and appeals. Assists the public with applications and inquiries. Prepares, issues and performs field inspections for items associated with permits. Performs related tasks as required. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban planning, engineering, public administration or a related field and 6 months to 2 years of professional experience in urban or transportation planning and/or community development activities. Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities General knowledge of the principles and practices of transportation, urban and/or long range planning; general knowledge of zoning and code enforcement practices; ability to provide professional staff to public bodies; ability to read and interpret blueprints, site development plans, engineered drawings and architectural designs; ability to gather and interpret technical and statistical information and prepare technical reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials and to the general public.
