About the Morrisville Planning Department The Planning Department plays a central role in shaping Morrisville's future. From reviewing development proposals and updating long-range plans to engaging with residents on zoning, transportation, and sustainability initiatives, our team ensures that Morrisville continues to thrive as a vibrant, connected, and welcoming community. About the Role We want individuals who are committed to a career in planning and public service•a motivation the team is willing to invest in. What You'll Do In this role, you will manage a wide range of development review responsibilities, including evaluating site plans, rezonings, subdivision proposals, and telecommunications applications for compliance with the Unified Development Ordinance and adopted plans. You'll guide applicants through the development process by leading pre‑submittal meetings, coordinating interdepartmental reviews, preparing reports and presentations, and ensuring approved projects meet all requirements through site inspections and final plat review. You will also support policy and ordinance updates by processing amendments, variances, annexation petitions, road changes, and interpreting UDO standards as needed. Some specific examples include (this is not an exhaustive list and is only for illustration purposes Reviews site plans, preliminary subdivision plats and construction plans for conformance with Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and modifications to the same. Reviews building permit submittals for conformance with approved plans. Serves as the project manager for telecommunication, subdivision, and site plan applications by acting as the applicant's main point of contact and identifying and facilitating discussion about any interdepartmental conflicts and issues. Reviews telecommunication submittals. Reviews rezonings and negotiates conditions for conditional rezonings with applicants. Reviews Comprehensive Plan amendments. Performs informal interpretations of the UDO as part of the development review process. Assigns addresses to new development. Compiles the development review committee's comments and distributes to the applicant. Conducts informal discussions with prospective applicants regarding development applications and processes. Facilitates and leads pre-submittal meetings with prospective applicants. Performs site inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans. Assists with final plat reviews. Assist with the review of annexation petitions. Prepares reports, makes presentations and recommendations on planning-related issues to the Planning and Zoning Board and Town Council. Processes road renaming and road closure requests. Processes variance, special use permit, and appeal requests. Recommends and prepares amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance. Of course there are always the other duties as assigned category! The Must Haves (Minimum Qualifications) Level II 2+ years of planning or related field Level III 2+ years required internally at the Planner II level to be considered. External candidates must have 6+ years of proven work experience in planning. Senior Planner 2+ years required internally at the Planner III level to be considered. External candidates must have 6+ years of proven work experience in planning.
All Positions:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university.
